DICT affirms commitment to Philippine government digitalization renewing partnership with Google Cloud

Taguig City, Philippines (December 27, 2023) – In a move poised to support its thrust in leading the Philippine government’s digitalization initiatives, the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) renewed its strategic partnership with Google Cloud, one of the leading large-scale cloud service providers in the world, and MaroonStudios, one of the country’s fastest growing cloud subscription and services providers specializing in the public sector.

The partnership renewal was officially kicked off at the Google Cloud Philippines headquarters in Bonifacio Global City last December 27, with no other than Mr. Edwin Ligot, DICT Assistant Secretary for Infostructure Management and Development, Mr. Ferdie Saputil, Google Cloud Lead for the Philippines, and Mr. James Mendoza, CEO and Founder of MaroonStudios Inc., gracing the festivities.

The DICT started its partnership with Google Cloud and MaroonStudios during the fourth quarter of 2022. Since then, more than 27 projects from various national and local government agencies such as the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Education (DepEd), Land Registration Authority (LRA) and many more have been transferred to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to leverage its class-leading Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Management and Security capabilities.

For this partnership renewal, the DICT will further maximize the capabilities and advantages of GCP subscribing to Google Cloud’s Public Sector Subscription Agreement (PSSA), a unique, industry-first offering which safeguards public sector customers only charging a fixed amount regardless of consumption. Implemented well, this protects public sector customers from “bill shock”, especially when there are spikes in utilization during peak season.

“With PSSA, our counterparts in the DICT can sleep soundly at night, knowing that whatever happens, even if the number of users accessing any of the systems they have hosted in GCP double or even triple overnight, there is zero financial or service-related impact to them and their end users,” said Mr. James Mendoza.

Alongside PSSA, the DICT’s renewal also comes with Premium Support and a Security Command Center, both essential in ensuring the quality, reliability, and security of the cloud subscription. This is important as the DICT sees at least a 200% increase in the number of projects it will be hosting on GCP in the next twelve months.

“Expect greater things,” said Assistant Secretary Ligot. “MaroonStudios and Google Cloud’s expertise will be instrumental in achieving DICT’s ambitious goals and delivering transformative solutions for the Filipino people.”
